From Passports to Thanksgiving Abroad

Updated: Dec 2, 2018

Travel is important for everyone, but it offers a great deal to youth--especially girls. Our travel component offers a variety of cultural and educational experiences that provides girls with greater knowledge of what is really going on in the world they live in.

MSK program participants and chaperones prepare to travel to London for their first cultural experience abroad.

We set a 2018 goal for returning and new participants to go global, and due to the generous contributions of our supporters, friends, and community, we did it!

"Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry, but by demonstrating that all peoples laugh, cry, eat, worry, and die, it can introduce the idea that if we try and understand each other, we may even become friends." Maya Angelou

July Passport Fair - Makia, 16

"My experience when applying for my passport was very exciting! I know this will open up new doors for a very adventurous journeys outside of the US. Having a passport will give me more opportunities to see the world and to cultures beyond my environment. Also, it gave me more self-independence knowing that its my own passport with my name on it. This trip abroad will be my first time on an airplane. I am very excited on the many more journeys I will take with my passport." #MSKabroadsquad

Thanksgiving Abroad w/my daughter- Xavier, MSK Mom

New Vision MSK gave me the opportunity to travel abroad with my daughter, Y'Mia. I am immensely thankful and grateful to see the world with her and through her eyes, as well as, to share all the cultural experiences with an amazing group of Black girls. A highlight was visiting the Black Cultural Archives in Brixton, London. Y'Mia gained so much strength through this experience in learning the contributions of Black women around the globe. MSK has taught my daughter to understand that she has a voice that is powerful, valuable, and that it should be heard! #proudMSKmom
